Week 7 at Plas y Brenin

13Jul11

Cake of the week – Choc Chip Cookie! | Interesting Fact – ‘SW7’ is the codename for the next thrill ride at Alton Towers for 2013 (Secret Weapon 7) | Best Thing – Alton Towers trip | Work Highlight – Presentation to New Zealand kids | Best Outdoor – Mountain biking through the quarries!

A quieter one this week, a reflection of the wet weather in some respects!

Monday – Day Off! I met up with Dafyd and co. at Alton Towers! Highlights include TH13TEEN, RITA, OBLIVION, & the usual suspects – plus the all you can eat Pizza & Pasta lunch! It’s not everyday you meet up with old school friends – good to catch up!

Tuesday – So I’m becoming quite a fair weather person of late. It rained. Enough said.

Wednesday – Loose ends day (yes it was still raining) – as a bonus I managed to buy some £89 headphones for £10 new. I also blew the dust and cobwebs off Keynote.app to prepare a presentation about the centre for Friday…

Thursday – Day shift on reception; answering the phone, making tea etc…

In the evening, I stretched my legs and went on a 1 hour run over to and around the nearby Llyn Crafnant with Lawrence, who didn’t once mention that he was feeling tired at all :p A sunny evening!

Friday – Centre Tour day! So, my presentation and tour went down well with the visiting group from New Zealand. They were a group of 12-15 year olds (swimming team) with 2 leaders, who had only days before swum (in relay) the English Channel (a cheap alternative to Stena Line I suppose :p). They  were passing through on their way to another swimming competition in Ireland and wanted a tour of the National Mountain Centre.

In the afternoon I caught up with some TV, did a kitchen shift, and greeted Tom & Jo on their arrival for ML Training.

Saturday – Stores shift – pretty chilled with some sunny breaks. Thereafter a 30 mile (1150m) bike ride up the Dyffryn Mymbyr, over the Pass, and right up the zig-zags post-Nant Peris through the Dinorwig Quarries to Bus Stop. Seeking out some new downhill, a route down to Gilfach Ddu (Llyn Padarn), accross Llanberis and up Telegraph Valley, to come straight back down and back over the pass.

A fine way to enjoy a lovely sunny evening (except a snake-bite puncture from the pesky drainage channels)

Sunday – Phase 2 – the next grade 2 scramble with Gareth – up East Ridge (Y Garn) and back down over Foel Goch and along via the Mushroom Garden.

Night Shift 1 of 3 for the evening…
