Monday – mock student day with an MIA re-assessee on Clogwyn y Grochan – problem solving… With Phil D’s ever so subtle tip-offs, I had to first get my hand ‘stuck’ in a crack and then ‘fall-off’ and go ‘unconcious’ – all on Brant (VS). Luckily, with plenty of time to spare, I also got to second Phil up Brant Direct (HVS)

In the evening, I went to the rolling pool with Jo & Josh to go over some more BCU 2* skills followed by an evening lecture by Matt on Alaska

Tuesday – quiet day! Just chilled in the bar – laptop stuff… a session climbing indoors in the Brenin wall later

Wednesday – a full day’s outing to Holyhead Mountain with Josh & Kristina – lead a Severe (gear placement practice!) and seconded Josh up King Bee Crack (HVS ***)

Arriving back, it was a sunny afternoon, so Hayley & I went out on the lake with the canoes – open boating practice getting those ‘J’ and power strokes sorted! In fact, the day turned out to be quite a multi-discipline activity day when Brendan & I took to the dry-slope for some skiing after dinner!

Thursday – Sea Level Traversing with a visiting school group – we travelled over to Porthdafarch, Anglesey. An interesting group activity, with added fun of the tide coming in and lapping at our feet at one point trying to get out of a slot in the cliffs!

The afternoon was a success as I gained my hatrick win orienteering around Dolwyddelan Castle – marshy! Wimbledone & Red wine in the newly refurbished Plas y Brenin Bar for a chill

Friday – Bangor based day road bike hunting,  eating fish & chips, and saying hello to people – had to be back for a night shift at the centre so no dawdling…

Saturday – another relaxed sort of day spent visiting Sam to get my car serviced followed by another night shift (mostly spent ferrying a Channel 4 film crew around)

Sunday – a 5.40am start! The Channel 4 guys were leaving early… reception then centre shift 8.30-4.30 – spot of cleaning and some sea kayak tinkering was largely good fun. At 4pm we went for a dip in the lake – it was quite choppy although baking hot in the sun – one width and back was plenty enough to get me thoroughly frozen and feeling bizarrely quite sea sick haha!

A warm shower then an evening’s scrambling up Braich Ty Du – Pen yr Ole Wen. A thoroughly satisfying and an enjoyable end to the week

Do you ever run out of energy?
How do you sort out what you have to do from what you want to do?
